November 6th: STEP 1 – PORTO – LAMEGO – VISEU

This Tuesday morning, the 44 teams entered in the 2 categories “classic and prestige” gathered to take the start of the first leg of this second Portugal Tour. Missed, however, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti crew Sinopolis & Dreux Breze, which had to abandon due to an engine failure and borrow the car courtesy, made available by the organization to the unfortunate competitors .

Roadbook in hand the co-drivers indicated a full east direction towards Lamego. The goal: to go up the river Douro, while following very closely the roadbook so as not to miss the first Control of Passage.

It is during these CPs, organized around a “coffee break” that each crew is subjected to the games of questions / answer which allow by addition with the other events of the rally to come out each evening a classification of stage.

The landscapes crossed are both beautiful and very singular, because the red vines of the Douro Valley, planted on the terrace, are organized to adapt to the steep reliefs of the valley. Lunch at the “Six Senses Douro Valley”, a luxurious establishment mixing both the absolute zenitude of a contemporary decor with the sumptuous view of the surrounding landscapes. After lunch, drive back to Lamego for the first regularity round around Lake Albufeira de Vilar.

The route is winding, but relatively easy. Average imposed, 50 km/h over 4.5 km. The task was, however, made difficult by a thick fog which limits the visibility, for proof, the crew of the porch 911 blue targa of Letartre & Letartre which made it the reverse way.
After this ERR, the participants took the road again, still bothered by a fog we could have cut with a knife, to sink in the heart of the forests of eucalyptus and mimosas and to join the region of Lapa and Segoes.

First difficulty for co-drivers with some changes of direction, which had to stay focused! Arrived in the art city of Viseu, the capital of Beira Alta, the competitors met for a well-deserved rest at the Hotel Pousada de Viseu, a former hospital converted into a luxury hotel and overlooking the historic center of this magnificent city.
